I want the viewer to feel as if he or she could step into my paintings. I want them to feel the essence of the animal, be carried away to a beautiful island in a changing world. To see the creatures that live there as whole and complete... belonging there.

Welcome to FAM 2021! We are so excited to be returning for our 5th Year!

2021 has brought a few changes to our exhibiting artist list with three who will be exhibiting "virtual only" - be sure to visit the virtual gallery spaces of Barbara Lange, Carole Ferony, and Marilyn Vaillancourt, to continue the flow of love to them. With these changes, FAM welcomes two new to 2021 artists, Lorrie Mason and Sue Ayala, on the floor for our physical as well as Virtual Shows!

FAM is in a state of awe and gratitude to our fantastic sponsors and growing circle of community supporters! We feel tremendous gratitude to The City of Lakeland Department of Parks and Recreation, whose generous Co-Sponsorship support directly made our 2021 return possible! Thank you also to our new Modernist level sponsors: The Maguires of Lakeland and Don's Dozen. Y'all are awesome! Thank you to our Romantic level supporters: Vince & Julie Degeorge and Ronald & Linda Daniel, we are grateful! Thank you to our growing circle of friends & community circle of supporters! We love you all!! THANK YOU!

Thank you Dr. Alex Rich, director of The Polk Museum of Art for your continued support of FAM. We are very honored to continue to receive your endorsement! Be sure to visit the Museum and become a supporting member!

Finally, we extend special thanks to the Hyatt Place Lakeland for hosting our artists this year, and to Innovative Ink for printing this year's Show Program, Lamp Pole Banners, and Posters! Much appreciated!

I thank my family, the artists, and the community for your continued faith in me and in the vision of Fine Art at the Magnolia. Much love to you all!— Betsy

1986 Rand Mcnally Road Atlas on the passenger seat, scenic back roads, turning down winding lanes advertising 'Fresh Eggs' on weathered hand-painted signs, chickens, sketching cattle watching me watching them, expansive prairies. That's where I find inspiration, drawing, wandering, looking, listening. Then returning to my studio and cranking up the music, I draw. Charcoal, pencil, pastels, inks, color pencil, conte crayon. Expressive line, charcoal wash, bold color. That is me. That is my work.

Bohrer Gallery's annual creative projects -- including Fine Art at the Magnolia, its scholarship, 4 Squared Makers, the The Florida Arts Journal, and our One Wall Artist Exhibit and Grant program -- would all not be possible without the generous support of those who share our vision of preserving the vitality of the working artists in our communities. Please consider joining our growing circle of patrons by becoming one of our essential annual contributors for 2023. Thank you for supporting the fine arts!

I was born with a pencil in my hand, or so it seems. Line, to me, is form. The possibilities, endless. Through my figurative compositions I seek to stimulate interpretations, challenge visual expectations, and extend a personal invitation to find a balance between life and expression.

Painting mangroves with an attitude. I love tripping through my paintings. I start with an idea, which I then develop by applying oil paint to birch panels. I feel out the movement or statement of the work by developing light and shadow around the mangrove trees. I try to bring the viewer on a journey through these magnificent mangroves.

My work is constantly evolving. Each new design grows from the previous. I like to create tension between forms, mixing opposing textures and shapes in harmony, creating balance in opposition. My sculptures are a replication of my emotions, but also a reflection of the viewer.

We are proud to be involved in Lakeland’s vibrant art community. Between working with local artists and galleries, including the Polk Museum of Art, our days are far from dull. Julie is currently a member of the American Business Women’s Association. Vince served on the Board of Directors of the Imperial Symphony Orchestra in Lakeland. We are both active members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. We are continuously amazed by the variety of activities available and the warmth of the people in our ‘adopted’ hometown.

I have worked with Boro Glass for a long time. I love the clarity of the glass I use. I melt the glass with a hot torch and shape it with graphite paddle, knife and torch. All work is off-hand. I cure all of my work with a kiln that anneals each piece. Bases are all carved, shaped, and colorized. I am completely self taught and love what I do.

I offer unique, industrial, mixed-metal jewelry combining traditional goldsmithing techniques with iron, granulation, and stone settings. I've been creating things from metal for 35 years, and it's been a thrill! I am fascinated by mechanics, I like the way things connect and move. I am inspired by Hinges, stirrups, grommets, chain patterns, etc. Every item is handmade by me.

I am captivated by the peacefulness of wheel-thrown pottery. Like me, my pots are whimsical and slightly off-center. I Raku fire my pots with a copper matte glaze as the dominant base — I am drawn to the serendipity and earthy feel of this technique. I taught ceramics at Valencia College for 7 years, worked in graphic design since 1987, and have received numerous art festival awards across the South East.

My work is motivated by the human need to communicate and connect. I use visual and tactile language in an effort to go beyond the merely verbal. To thrive as humans, we seek meaningful relationships to each other, to animals, to nature and to the earth. Art can create these connections, and touch our souls in ways that transcend time and space.

My work has grown. It was highly realistic at first but that was strangely unsatisfying for me even when I attained it. Buckets of sweat and tears later, the images I produce use identifiable figures free drawn and placed into layered abstract worlds. Some things are covered and some are revealed, some are lost and some are found. Lost and Found.

I have been a devoted working artist for over 30 years. My paintings provide me a visual voice for expressing the elements of life I hold close to heart — family, community, and spiritual health. Through color and layers of textured materials, I seek to symbolize the building and healing of oneself in connection with one another, nature, and love.

As a jewelry instructor and owner of Two-Bs Studio, I focus on learning and teaching. My students are always pushing me in different directions which adds variety to the look of my work. I believe my initial attraction to this medium was the engineering aspect but I have fallen in love with stones and teaching as well. My personal style is simple and streamlined but give me a fancy stone anytime!

Nature, I believe, has all of the magic, intrigue, and inspiration of great art. It makes me happy to channel that beauty into abstractions of silver and gold. From sketch to sculpture, and by working directly with metal, I hope to illuminate nature's voice with dicroic glass, pearl, and precious stone.
