I want the viewer to feel as if he or she could step into my paintings. I want them to feel the essence of the animal, be carried away to a beautiful island in a changing world. To see the creatures that live there as whole and complete... belonging there.

I hand fabricate jewelry using sea urchins and shells, capturing the feeling of movement of mythical sea creatures, whether they be swimming, plunging, or floating in the water. The settings for the shells and stones are built out of gold sheets and wires. The tentacles are sculpted by forging round sterling wires on an anvil to achieve a fluid sense of motion. Traditional blacksmithing techniques and hand tools are the foundation of my metals practice.

I am captivated by the peacefulness of wheel-thrown pottery. Like me, my pots are whimsical and slightly off-center. I Raku fire my pots with a copper matte glaze as the dominant base — I am drawn to the serendipity and earthy feel of this technique. I taught ceramics at Valencia College for 7 years, worked in graphic design since 1987, and have received numerous art festival awards across the South East. My pieces DO NOT hold water.

My paintings walk through the surrealist-abstract world, dealing with hidden dreams and emotions. I want my painting to be like a poem, that you discover every hidden emotion.

I grew up on an 80 acre farm near the Suwannee River in Florida, where I developed a deep love, respect and fascination for nature. Florida's vanishing wilderness, from the Everglades to Okefenokee Swamp, is a big source of inspiration for me. My work pushes beyond surface description of nature to a deeper, numinous or magical realism — taking the viewer to a liminal space that is more real, more colorful, more alive. I slowly and meditatively carve my scenes into wood block, then transfer them to panel via letterpress or collagraph technique. I got my M.A. in Art Education from U.F. in 1994, and taught art for 17 years.

As an artist who loves biology, when I kayak, hike or go to the beach I take a field guide with me so I can name the various plants and animals that I encounter. Their infinite patterns, textures and colors fascinate and inspire me. I combine structures from plant, fish and fowl to design my own biomorphic forms. I am particularly fascinated by seed-pods because they symbolize both the beginning and the end of a life cycle. Clay is used to construct these textured, undulating seed-pod inspired forms that suggest motion. By focusing on whimsical color relationships and a variety of patterning, my artwork celebrates the diverse and transient qualities of life. After all, in life the only constant is change and while that may be a bit frightening it is also beautiful, exciting and worthy of celebration.

I make abstract sculptures from maple, black walnut, and red wood burl lumber gathered from across the United States. As a highlight, I sometimes incorporate petrified wood, tiger eye, bonded agate, and analine wood dyes to enhance the abstract colors and textures in my pieces. My paintings are my views of the world through consciousness and unconsciousness. Devoid of preconceived ideas and direction, I take a stream of consciousness approach, where the act of doing or the process is equally important to the finished piece. Rendered in ambiguity yet painted with clear definitiveness, organic shapes, rhythmic lines, and glyphic marks develop as I work, leaving each piece open to the viewers interpretation.

Painting mangroves with an attitude. I love tripping through my paintings. I start with an idea, which I then develop by applying oil paint to birch panels. I feel out the movement or statement of the work by developing light and shadow around the mangrove trees. I try to bring the viewer on a journey through these magnificent mangroves.

I have been a devoted working artist for over 30 years. My paintings provide me a visual voice for expressing the elements of life I hold close to heart — family, community, and spiritual health. Through color and layers of textured materials, I seek to symbolize the building and healing of oneself in connection with one another, nature, and love.

My work is constantly evolving. Each new design grows from the previous. I like to create tension between forms, mixing opposing textures and shapes in harmony, creating balance in opposition. My sculptures are a replication of my emotions, but also a reflection of the viewer.

My son, Jon, and I are fascinated by the fluidity of glass — even after a sculpture is finished, it's still classified as a liquid. Each work is the product of a three-day "Dance of Fire" in which silver is melted into liquid glass and a sculpture is formed, layer upon layer, over a furnace roaring at 2400 Fahrenheit. Why do we do it? We love Florida's oceans and waterways, and to sculpt glass is to sculpt the ocean. Jon and I have been creating glass together since 2001.
